The Southwestern College Education Association stands with the people who are the most vulnerable during times of tyranny and threats to democracy. We stand witness to an unrivaled and unmitigated rise in Federal actions that demonstrate contempt for diverse populations, including those being served here at Southwestern College. ICE and other Federal agencies have used violence and fear to intimidate our communities without authority or consent from local governing agencies. They have used the same tactics to punish anyone who resists this authoritarian regime’s agenda. We furthermore recognize that any increased ICE presence on or near campus explicitly endangers vulnerable groups due to structural anti-Blackness, anti-Brownness, Islamophobia, ableism, anti-LGBTQ+, fascism, and many more hateful ideologies engrained into the current administration.
Because of these realities, the SCEA is resolved to be an ally to those students, faculty, staff, and community members who are being negatively impacted by hateful ideologies. We are committed to doing our part to provide support, guidance, factual information, and safety for our community members. We are also committed to connecting with other organizations that are actively working towards these ideals in order to strengthen the network needed to stand united during these difficult times.
